This page describes the facts about an email address at The Old Place. I learned years ago not to depend on ISP email address. If you ever change providers, for whatever reason, you lose your email address. If your provider goes out of business, you lose your email address. If you have a POP email address (yourname@someplace.org) where someplace.org is not going anywhere, your email address is always there. Pretty neat.

The server I have theoldplace.org set up on offers a very powerful email handling program. You may read your email from any email reader, such as Eudora, or you may receive and send email from any browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. This can be done from any computer anywhere in the world that has internet connection. Even neater.

It goes without saying that your email account is user name and password protected and only someone with the user name and password can retrieve or send mail from your address. Necessary and neat.

It also goes without saying that the available names are pretty much open and since this is only for kin folks, you should be able to get about any name you want. If your name has been duplicated in the family you may want to add a little something extra. I just think it is neat to have an email address at The Old Place.

Now the bad news. The server we are using charges a dollar a month for extra email address. I plan to charge $12.00 per year for the email address. If I sell enough I will retire early. Also, due to limited server space, you will need to store any mail you wish to keep on your hard drive and delete any mail you don't want to keep. This is a simple procedure using a free mail program.
