Some Suggestions

Here are some of the ideals I have been given concerning possible additions to The Old Place pages If you want to add to this list or contribute to any of these ideals just let me (Sher) know. I will try to get these online in the next couple of weeks

The Old Place Announcement Board
I am going to try to post current events and happening and other things on this page. Good news, bad news, happy news, sad news, weddings, births, accidents, illness, special events, and any other things that may be of interest can be posted on this page. Any item you want to post just let me (Sher) know.

The Old Place Recipe Book
Anyone that has eaten at The Old Place knows that there are many very good cooks in the family. Some of these fine cooks want to share some of their favorite recipes. Any recipe you want to share just send them to me. (Sher)

Memories of Granddad and Grandma Houston
Several weeks ago as I was doing a little work on The Old Place web site, I realized how little I knew about Granddad Houston. I was not quite five years old when he passed away. I also realized that only a few of the family are still living that have memories of Granddad. I picked up the phone, called my Mother, and and explained my thoughts. As usual, she took the bull by the horns and started contacting family members that would have memories and then she began writing her own memories. Any memories you want to share just send them to me. (Sher)

The Book
The original idea for the book came in 1982 from Aunt Audrey. My first exposure to the book was while sitting in the kitchen of the old place. I do not remember exactly who was there, but I remember Aunt Audrey, Aunt Myrtle (my Mother), Uncle Elbert, Eddie, My wife Betty, and myself. (If someone remembers who else was there, let me know and I will add them.) We all listened as they talked about what all they would like to see in the book. Their plan was for each child of Grandma and Grand dad Houston to write their memories of growing up at the old place. As I was a wealthy dive shop owner who had a copying machine, My mother turned to me and said " Sher can you make 9 copies of every ones writing so we will have a complete copy for each one". I said "no, I will make 10 copies so I will have one for myself". Eddie instantly said " make 11, I want one too". And then it began..... The first edition was finished in 1987. It contained about 250 pages and we printed 167 copies. In 1989 we printed a small second edition of about 65 copies(This completely wore out my copying machine.). Needless to say all of these copies were gone at once. In 1996 Marla retyped the text of the book into our new computers. I have converted this into a PDF format so now you can download the text version (no pictures). Once you have it downloaded, you may view or print any or all of The Book. I hope you enjoy the book as much as we enjoyed our part in making it happen.

The Address/Phone Book
You can download the latest Houston Family Address/Phone book and review it for updates and/or corrections. After you have looked it over, you can email Marla with any changes you feel are needed.

This one is a little different. I reckoned not everyone would not want their name, address, phone number, and email address available to anyone out there. So, this download requires a user name and a password (which I will email to family members on request). If you want the user name and password, just call, email, or come by.
